For a super party on a hot summer night, light up you yard with garden lights. You’ll probably have a lot of extra work to do as well , but if it means that you finally have a good enough reason to buy path lights, candle lanterns and patio lights – then go for it . Just picture how great it will be to see your night time garden in a whole new light
You see, garden lighting is more than just a few cheesy bulbs on a drawstring . Its a way to create a mood around an event and transition from various parts of your property . Have you heard of the concept of garden rooms? It’s a wonderful way to design small gardens to seem bigger than they are and I love to use the same idea with lights , at night and define different spaces with a different style of lighting.
To start you can use lights for many practical purposes . In the case of a party or guests coming over , begin with how you define the path. There are so many wonderful choices. I love solar path lights. From my perspective they’ve come such a long way from earliest versions that almost never worked that I don’t know why a person would ever think of anything but solar . But now you can also select between basic white light – or spot lighting or solar lights that change color. I’ll use white closer to the front of the garden and feature my new colored lights in the back.
The color changing path lights, I must admit, really are a favorite of mine . Not only can these solar powered garden lights switch from red to orange to yellow to green to blue and purple, then back to red, they can stay at any color you like so the possibilities are not quite endless , but pretty darned close.
Yet another great choice are solar powered, color changing globes that I can sit on a little stand or just roll around the yard or (here’s the best ) -you can just toss them in the pool. This is terrific.
Best of all, I now have an excuse to buy outdoor candle lanterns. I know they’ve been around for a while, but there are so many choices . Since I plan to set up them around all the tables and hang a few from the odd branch, I can choose between iron and clear glass, iron and mosaic glass and some particularly nice looking pressed and crackle glass lanterns in fuchsia, amber, dark green and turquoise.
I spend hours every week trying to make my garden as beautiful as I can. It means a lot to me and it’s exciting to have any chance to show it off in a new light – no pun intended .
