If you’ve got a swimming pool in your back garden then your house probably looks like grand central station each time the weather starts to pick up. You may not have heard form half your friends over the winter but as soon as the sun comes out they’re all on the phone and the same goes for your children, all of a sudden they’re best friends with half the school. You might think you’re prepared, you’ve stocked up on snacks and juice but you need to make sure you’re ready for the safety side of things too. The first thing you need to do is make sure there’s always a responsible adult around and never leave children unattended no matter how well they claim they can swim.
Make sure the pool is fenced off so everyone playing on the rest of the garden can’t fall in by mistake and if the pool isn’t in use at all you need to make sure it’s always well covered. Swimming pools covers are easy to pull over the pool and they don’t cost too much. You could always go for solar covers as these will help the water keep some warmth.
You need to make sure you always keep the swimming pool chemicals locked away. The chemicals are vital for keeping the water clean but they are of course poisonous and need to be kept away from children. You need to make sure all the instructions on the chemicals are followed, too little can be just as bad as too much and always leave the water at least an hour after treating before swimming. Always try to add the chemicals the night before so they have all night to clear the water.
Swimming pools are usually fun but accidents can happen in a second so always have a mobile outside just in case something does go wrong. There also needs to be a set of sensible rules which everyone has to listen to which should help keep everyone safe.
